Montmarte--Artists' SquareI was in Paris twenty years ago for only a day and a half. Two things I had to see in Paris then--Moulin Rouge and the Louvre. As we found our way into the back entrance of the Louvre we came upon an artist who had set up to paint there. After a long conversation with him, I bought a piece of his work--a painting of this very square. At the time, I didn't know what it was. I just knew that I loved it. It was the perfect souvenir of Paris. It has been hanging in my home, suitably framed, through the ups and downs of the last two decades. I love the painting. Here I am finally, experiencing the real artists' square. The sun is shining over a cobalt blue sky and Sacre Couer keeps watch over the artists. |
